The Fellowship of Believers
Acts 2:42-47
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
Tonight is the OneLoveRevolution gathering here in Tyler, where churches from all over Tyler will come together to combined vision, passion and heart on how to reach the lost here in Tyler. I usually am very bad at thinking big but rather rely on others to tell me what and how to do something and then I can catch onto it and run with the vision. But today as I was praying for tonight I read this scripture and I believe it has key components on how to reach the lost.
In the Acts church God added to their number when the believers were in fellowship with each other and when there was sound teaching and when the believers prayed. I believe that we have been pulled away from these simple acts to trying to put on a good show for people and by putting on acts with lights and flashy "hip" things, when people deep down just want fellowship and sound teaching. Everyone, no matter if they are believers or not, want to be wanted. They want to know they are loved for who they are. We can do this with the Lord guidance and strength. When there is unity in the church and community is taking place people will take notice. The Lord delights in unity and in the fellowship of his people, through this the Lord will add to the church. I believe it's not only by our efforts but through obedience to God's word, will draw people to the body of Christ. There are things that God is calling us to do, so may our heart be open to him.
I don't have any answers to this but I know that God is doing something incredible here in Tyler and I don't want to miss out on it. I want my heart to be prepared and I want him to speak to our hearts tonight and give us vision. I want us to come tonight with open hearts and minds that are bent on doing whatever God is calling us to! He knows the people of Tyler better than all of us combined, so we must open our hearts to him and let him speak. God is the most creative, clever, insightful source and we cannot do anything without him.
Lord, open our hearts tonight. Give us vision. Give us grace. Give us endurance and most of all Give us your heart!
